Using Cool Swag to Raise Money for Charity

Today I came across a charity that sold really cool t-shirts and tumblers to raise money for orphans.  It reminded me that people love buying stuff, especially when they can feel good  knowing that their purchase is helping the greater good.

What a novel idea to use cool swag to raise money for charity, not to mention it brings attention to the name of the cause.

There are a couple things to keep in mind when raising money for charities with promotional items or swag as I prefer to call it.  Choose eye catching products such as bracelets, t-shirts, hats and stickers (which are all top sellers).  If you are selling t-shirts, choose a few styles that will appeal to the crowd buying them and be sure to be extra creative with the logo – it is best to have a few design options to choose from.

USimprints also offers a discount to Non-Profits.   So here’s to promoting great causes!

Givology is the July Recipient for Cause to Promote!

A little about the mission of Givology:

Launched in March 2008 by students at the University of Pennsylvania, Givology is an Internet online giving marketplace for education that leverages small dollar donations to support grassroots projects and student scholarships in the developing world. As a P2P community at the forefront of the internet microphilanthropy revolution, Givology partners with NGOs and schools throughout the world and connects internet donors to grassroots causes. Through donor message functions, open blogging, and frequent student updates, Givology democratizes philanthropy by introducing choice, transparency, and information sharing in education philanthropy. In particular, they aspire to do the following:

  • Create an online community for giving – to connect our donors to high-impact investments in education
  • Serve as an online hub for grassroots education organizations that do transformational work in the community
  • Leverage small dollar donations to improve access to quality education in developing countries
  • Raise funding and support to enable our global partners to scale and expand their impact
  • Spread awareness and generate research about problems in education delivery
  • Share information and promote cross-cultural relationships through blogging, messaging, and social media

How Givology plans on using the products to promote their cause:

As a young organization, Givology strives to have creative campaigns to promote our cause and plans to use Promotional Temporary Tattoos for a campaign called The Temporary Tattoo Project. The Temporary Tattoo Project is a creative fundraiser partnering with 5 tattoo artists to design temporary tattoos and provide education to children in Kenya. Robyn Fukumoto and Lauren Sauma are hosting this Givology event to benefit Flying Kites, a non-profit Givology partner endeavoring to change the standard of care provided to the poorest of orphans in Kenya by setting them up with high quality education, amazing housing and a community raised in giving back. The 5 selected artists have each been paired with a child and designed a temporary tattoo for Givology to sell and raise money to support the children. The tattoos be presented at the launch event on July 27th, 2011.  All proceeds from the event will directly aid Flying Kites in their mission to provide quality education to underprivileged students and communities in Kenya. We hope to have over 400 people attend the launch on July 27th, 2011, and raise $2,000 for each child. After the launch event, the tattoos will be sold for several months on the e-commerce store and around New York City at pop up stores in various indoor and outdoor locations.

Sunscreen

Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes

We’ve all spent too much time in the sun at one time or another and had it result in a painful sunburn.   Most people know that as the hole in the ozone layer gets larger, we get more  UV radiation.  Since most of our UV exposure comes from the sun, skin cell damage is happening at a faster rate and even resulting in skin cancer for some.  The good thing is that most sunburns are easily avoided with the proper application of sunscreen.

So if you are planning an outdoor summer event or promotion, and want to get something that shows your customers and attendees that you care, then you should consider promotional sunscreen as a giveaway and help them be protected from head to toe!

Pedometers

Walk a Mile in Your Shoes

One the most underrated gadgets in my opinion is the pedometer.  They are worn at the waist and count every step you take.  They are surprisingly effective at helping people move more.  According to a study done by researchers at Stanford University people who used pedometers walked about 2,000 more steps (close to a mile) compared to those who weren’t counting steps.

After reading this, I knew that I had to put on a pedometer and give it a try.  It turned my day into a contest against myself — I started finding ways to move more to boost my step count.  I found myself choosing parking spots far from the door, just so I would have to walk a further distance.  The elevator no longer was an option as I chose to take the stairs.

Since I have a competitive nature, I decided to give one to my co-worker and make it a contest against her.  It was funny to see us both arguing over who would distribute faxes throughout the building or walk across the street to check the mail.

Pedometers are a fun and easy way to get the entire office on board to better health. USimprints has several custom pedometer styles and colors available.  Contact us for a quote and free virtual proof so you can walk a few extra miles in your shoes!

A.B.L.E. Youth, Inc. is the June Recipient for Cause to Promote

A.B.L.E. Youth, Inc. is the June Recipient for Cause to Promote

A little about the mission of A.B.L.E. Youth, Inc:

To reach and teach children in wheelchairs ages three through high school the importance of complete independence in all activities of daily living, which in turn leads to self-esteem, motivation, and a desire to excel. The children are taught The ABLE Way – to Adapt, Believe, Love, and Enjoy life as it pertains to them.

How A.B.L.E. Youth plans on using the products to promote their cause:

A.B.L.E. Youth has several sporting events and agency fairs each year, and we would use the items to promote our organization.  Logo pens, sticky notes, highlighters and water bottles would be a great way to remind people about A.B.L.E. Youth and our kids each time they use them.  Drawstring bags would also be a great way for the A.B.L.E. Youth participants to carry their items for sports events.  At this time, we only have brochures and business cards.  These things tend to get thrown away or lost, while usable promotional items will be seen and used more often.  This will remind them of our organization each time they are used.

Bandana Project

Bandanas that even Tupac would consider cool…

In the past three years bandanas have become a hot commodity for events such as concerts, music festivals and  other outdoor activities.   Bandanas are quite the collectors items to purchase at yearly events, with the designs and themes changing each year.  Bandanas are without a doubt one of the most versatile headgear out there.  They  are fashionable and can be worn several ways including as a Du Rag to keep your hair out of your face and soak up sweat on a hot summer day.

Beth Beasley (one of our Branding Coordinators) worked with a customer on the custom bandanas you see below which are custom 22″ x 22″ cotton rotary bandanas.  They had a design that bled edge to edge, with four spot colors.  USimprints has the resources to manufacture these domestically or internationally (depending on the time frame and budget).  The quality of these bandanas are fabulous!

USimprints has had experience in printing over 350,000 bandanas over the past few years for several of our clients.  We would love to help you on your next project too!

Tornado Emergency Kits

Here in the south we are in the middle of tornado season, and this year the tornados have been more devastating than ever!  We have had a lot of customers ask us about emergency kits or something that has the basics to deal with the aftermath of a tornado.

If you are looking for a useful giveaway item this season, you should consider emergency preparedness kits.  USimprints  has a wide selection of kits that include the basic emergency needs when a disaster occurs (water, first aid, radio, flashlight, etc.).  You may even consider inserting a natural disaster manual or a first aid manual into the kit.
